MOTHER 3, ACT FOURTEEN


OPEN ON:

EXT : NEW PORK CITY : SOUTH END : EVENING :


More than one-thousand PIGMASK soldiers are gathered before a stage. To the north are the rising skyscrapers of NEW PORK, its central tower illuminated by spotlights and a yellowish haze.

The soldiers are chanting, "All hail the king!"

The stage itself is composed of a central platform and large Happy Box screen, which sits at the back.

FASSAD stands at the forward end of the stage. His body has been reconstructed, face scarred, legs replaced with mechanical replicas. A breathing device fits over his nose and from it sprouts brass tubes that roll down the front of his chest. He smiles, peels and eats a banana as the MASKED MAN enters. His appearance sends the crowd into a frenzy.

Focus is turned on the MASKED MAN as the screen illuminates, and then the crowd is silent. A voice from the screen, deep and aged, speaks, but the camera remains on the Commander.

VOICE
Welcome, maggots, and good evening. I'd like
to thank you for your continued support and
service to the empire. Unfortunately, your
performance thus far has been nothing short of
abysmal. The lowest-ranked faction of my army-
(pause, coughing)
You're little more than toy soldiers.

The crowd fills with hushed whispers. On stage, FASSAD tosses away the banana peel.

VOICE (CONT.)
At the very least, you'll provide some decent
entertainment for me.

Focus again on the MASKED MAN as the voice transmits through a headset in his helmet.

VOICE
(to MASKED MAN)
Kill them.

The MASKED MAN lifts his cannon arm, which sparks with electricity. He fires off a beam into the crowd. The resulting explosion incinerates all bodies and muffles the screams. When the light clears, only remnants of the soldiers and their uniforms are left. The voice on-screen is laughing.

FASSAD looks to the MASKED MAN, whose face is stoic and unchanging. Behind him, the laughter grows in intensity.

CUT TO:

INT : NEW PORK CITY : LIMOUSINE : EVENING :


The DRIVER sits at the head of the limousine in a wide leather chair. There are rows of similar chairs behind him that line both walls, enclosing game and entertainment tables in the center.

LUCAS, KUMATORA, DUSTER and BONEY are positioned behind the DRIVER.

DRIVER
(excited)
There it is! New Pork City.

Shift to a view out the front window, which slowly moves from the limousine and over the expansive city: a conglomeration of skyscrapers and smoke-belching towers that encircle a centralized area built upon higher cliffs. Here is the greatest concentration of lights and colorful displays. Carnival rides and statuary flank the tallest structure-- a spiked, one-hundred-story building.

CUT TO:

EXT : NEW PORK CITY : AIRSTRIP : EVENING :


The limousine flies in over a landing grid at the western edge of the central district. It lands, doors open, and all occupants emerge.

DRIVER
You must be very honored guests indeed.
Not just anyone is allowed in the king's
private transport.

KUMATORA
Don't hold your breath on that one.

She moves toward the city and is stopped by the DRIVER, who offers them a map.

DRIVER
You might be needing this.

CUT TO:

EXT : NEW PORK CITY : CENTRAL DISTRICT : LOWER STREETS : EVENING :


KUMATORA unfurls the map, which is crudely drawn. LUCAS stands on his toes to see it as crowds of people, in both civilian and military attire, pass them by.

The street is lined with bright displays, many of which are plaster or cardboard and set behind a small guardrail. A large 'WELCOME' sign and mounted Happy Box screen flash different colors, music and propaganda.

LUCAS
Can you see where the Needle's at?

KUMATORA
Right, like they're going to print that on
the map. Use your head, Lucas! Start feeling
around for strong sources of power.

LUCAS
There's too many.

They walk east past the displays and crowds. BONEY sniffs along the ground ahead of them.

DUSTER
(to KUMATORA)
So, should we just assume the Needle is here
but they don't know about it?

KUMATORA
Not so loud! And no, they can't know about it.
It would have already been pulled. Right?

LUCAS
What happens when all the Needles are pulled?
Maybe they already got it and this is what happens.

LUCAS reaches for a display of balloons attached to a weight in the shape of a chubby blond boy. The weight flaps its arms and emits a mechanized voice.

BALLOON WEIGHT
Come play with me! We'll have lots of fun.
Spankety, spankety, spankety!

DUSTER
Oh good, then it won't take too long for us to
completely lose our minds.

They continue walking.

DUSTER (CONT.)
Well, come on then. Is this it? I've just been
going along with all of this, but that doesn't
mean I'm not curious. What's the story, princess?

KUMATORA
Don't call me that!

DUSTER
Why not? That's what you are.

LUCAS
Will bad things happen?

DUSTER
Giant waves, rivers overflowing, hellfire,
brimstone, eternal darkness-

KUMATORA
The Dark Dragon will rise and inherit the wishes
and desires of whoever awakens it.

DUSTER
Which means-?

KUMATORA
(exasperated, tossing map away)
I don't know! All right? It could mean anything!
All I know is doing this feels right to me.

DUSTER
Does it? Or were you just told to feel that way?

KUMATORA swings at him but he blocks her arm, holding her steady. She ignites a fire in one palm. LUCAS moves between them.

LUCAS
Hey, stop! Come on, it doesn't matter. I'm the
only one of us who can pull the Needles and
I've already made up my mind about it. Let's go.

He exits with BONEY. KUMATORA shakes her hand to quell the fire. Her focus remains tight on DUSTER.

CUT:

BONEY moves ahead, following his nose to the open doorway of an arcade, from which he abruptly retreats.

BONEY
Smells like something I buried once.

LUCAS
I don't think we'll find the Needle by
sniffing for it.

BONEY
But I found a trail-

DUSTER
(to KUMATORA)
So now that you've lost our only map,
where do we go next?

They stop and BONEY continues to the end of the street. A tight focus on KUMATORA shows the spiked EMPIRE TOWER and a ferris wheel in the distance.

KUMATORA
If the Needle really is here, then I should
be able to feel Locria. But I can't.
(to LUCAS)
What about you?

LUCAS
There's way too much. Something really
big, and it's close.
(pause)
I feel sick.

BONEY barks from off-screen.

LUCAS
Boney!

CUT:

A crowd of civilians and soldiers stand just to the left of a theater at the end of the street, partially obscuring BONEY. The building itself is round, decked out in ivory columns and purple trim.

LUCAS
What is it, boy? Did you get something?

KUMATORA
We don't have time for this!

BONEY
The smell is in here! Follow me.

He enters the theater with LUCAS.

KUMATORA
Smell? This whole damn place smells!

DUSTER
Is anyone going to tell me what's going on?

They follow. A single PIGMASK in the crowd watches them.

CUT TO:

INT : NEW PORK CITY : CENTRAL DISTRICT : THEATER : EVENING :


The lobby is small, packed to the ceiling with color-- bright carpet and walls, propaganda posters. A ticket desk and seating area is situated left of the screening room doors. BONEY moves in this direction.

KUMATORA
(covering nose, gagging)
This place is like an outhouse!

They move through the crowd. BONEY exits via the doorway, barking.

LUCAS
Boney? Boney, wait! Sit, boy!

He is stopped at the entrance by a rotund blond woman with a painted face. She is robotic. Her voice comes out as static.

LADY USHER
Excuse me, do you have a ticket?

KUMATORA
(pushing the USHER)
Move aside, scrapheap!

They exit as the USHER collides with the wall and breaks.

LADY USHER
Excuse me, do you have a ticket? A ticket?
(buzzing)
Remember mommy loves you, even when daddy is mean.

CUT:

The screening room is nearly empty of people, but crammed with rows of seats and garbage. Floor-to-ceiling speaker systems line either side of the movie screen. A film plays of a dark-haired boy in a striped shirt. The boy is standing atop a skyscraper, in the light of an ascending helicopter, and crying.

BONEY moves across the room while LUCAS stands at the center, captivated by the movie. KUMATORA and DUSTER follow BONEY.

KUMATORA
It's even worse in here.

DUSTER
What the hell is that?

BONEY
(off-screen)
I found the smell! Here, Lucas! Look!

CUT:

BONEY digs incessantly at the lower speakers, whining.

DUSTER
What is it we're looking for again?

KUMATORA
(mouth covered)
Lucas! Come get this dog of yours.

BONEY
Almost there, almost there!

He tears through the outer cover and crawls inside.

LUCAS
Boney!

CUT:

A view from inside, which reveals the speaker to be hollowed out into a tunnel through the theater wall. LUCAS peers inside.

LUCAS
Boney, come back!

BONEY's barking echoes back at them. LUCAS crawls inside.

CUT:

KUMATORA
Hey, wait! No! Lucas, where are you going!

DUSTER
How does he even fit in there? There's no way-

KUMATORA crawls through.

DUSTER (CONT.)
Oh, come on!

After hesitating, DUSTER peers into the hole and then pushes his knapsack inside.

DUSTER (CONT.)
(crawling in)
If I get stuck, it's all on you guys!

CUT TO:

INT : NEW PORK CITY : CENTRAL DISTRICT : SEWER SYSTEM : EVENING :


LUCAS and KUMATORA crawl out the opposite side, which opens into a sewer enclosed by concrete block walls. Raw sewage runs in a river through the center of the tunnel, bordered on each side by narrow walkways.

KUMATORA
I could strangle that mutt for dragging
us down here.

LUCAS
Boney!

A pause. LUCAS calls again.

KUMATORA
Boney, get your ass back here now!

LUCAS
(unnerved)
Can you feel that?

KUMATORA
It's strong. Very strong and very close.

DUSTER
(off-screen)
Never fear. It's only me.

CUT:

Hanging halfway out the sewer opening, knapsack in hand, DUSTER crawls out with help from LUCAS.

KUMATORA
This isn't funny. There's something here and
I can't tell what it is.

BONEY cries loudly off-screen.

LUCAS
(exiting)
Boney!

CUT:

LUCAS follows the calls around a bend in the system and then stops abruptly. A partially synthesized voice follows.

VOICE
Can't stay out of my business can you, boy?

CUT:

The reconstructed FASSAD steps forward, holding BONEY by the scruff of the neck. (When FASSAD speaks, his voice is projected through the brass tubes on his face).

LUCAS
Mr. Fassad? But you fell-

FASSAD
And here I am. Don't be so surprised. There's
only one thing that could kill me.

KUMATORA
(off-screen)
Lucas!

She enters with DUSTER.

KUMATORA
(breathless, shocked)
Fassad?

FASSAD
(annoyed)
Hello again, Princess.

DUSTER
What the hell're you doing in a sewer?

FASSAD
Getting all of you out of the way! Your precious
pet followed a trail straight down here. All I
had to do was intercept it.

BONEY
(struggling, growling)
Run away, Lucas!

LUCAS
Let him go, Fassad.

FASSAD waves his open hand over the river of sewage and it begins to boil.

FASSAD
How about a bath for poochy?

LUCAS starts forward. KUMATORA holds him.

KUMATORA
Put the dog down, Fassad. If you want a
fight, take it up with me!

FASSAD
I'll make you a deal, dear. You and that
bumbling fool can scurry back to whatever
hole you crawled out of. I'll even let little
poochy go, but you give the boy to me.

KUMATORA ignites a fire at her fingertips.

KUMATORA
Like hell I will!

She launches a stream of fire, which hits a pulsing blue-green shield, and then is deflected. FASSAD releases his spell on the sewage river and approaches (a tighter grip on BONEY).

FASSAD
You're a stubborn little bitch. You've always
been stubborn! I don't know what Ionia saw in you.

KUMATORA
Ionia?

FASSAD
(laughing, coughing)
She was a fool to give up that Needle.
It will all be in vain.

KUMATORA powers up another attack just as FASSAD launches one from his open hand. Streams of light grab her and toss her into the river, allowing DUSTER time to pull a pair of wall mounts from his sack.

He strikes FASSAD over the head, across the face, dislodging the breathing apparatus. FASSAD drops BONEY and falls. A gaping wound extends down his face, from below the eyes to his chin, gushing blood. He flails and, in the process, loses his hat, revealing the bright pink roots of his hair.

KUMATORA
(crawling out, shocked)
No!

BONEY growls as they approach FASSAD. LUCAS clings to DUSTER.

KUMATORA (CONT.)
No, how could you!

DUSTER
Kumatora?

KUMATORA
(to FASSAD)
That's the reason you can use PSI. That's the
reason the fall didn't kill you. Locria.

LUCAS
(surprised, quivering)
Locria! The Magypsy Ionia told us about?

KUMATORA
(close to tears)
You cheap bastard.
(grabbing FASSAD)
You sold us out, dammit! How could you!

FASSAD pushes her off and covers his wound. (Strange sounds as he attempts to breathe through it)

FASSAD
(telepathically)
I did what I was created to do: protect my
Needle and my life! But there is no power that
can stand up to the king. The one to make the final
pull will be a soldier acting on behalf of a
fearsome ruler! Not this weak, pathetic child!
I'll make sure of it.

His body glows white and arms extend, doubling in mass. FASSAD extends upward until his head has nearly touched the ceiling, and then slumps forward into a knuckle-walking position. When the light clears, a METAL APE stands before them, covered in silver fur. Its face appears almost iron, damaged by scars.

With a roar, the METAL APE gives chase, reaching for LUCAS as all others jumps aside. BONEY latches on but is not noticed. His mouth begins to bleed as he tears away the metallic fur.

CUT:

DUSTER runs alongside and deploys the Rope Snake. He takes swings at the ape, misses; KUMATORA fights back from the opposite side with PSI. Jets of misty-blue ice condense on METAL APE as it takes an offensive stance.

As the ice collects, METAL APE is slowed. Its right arm drags under the weight.

CUT:

LUCAS turns back. BONEY is tugging on his clothes.

BONEY
Run, Lucas! Get away!

LUCAS
Kumatora!

CUT:

Jaws open, the METAL APE forms a blinding static charge in its throat, which it hurls at KUMATORA. She puts up a shield just as the wall shatters around her. Debris falls into the river. The crumbling ceiling begins to break her shield.

LUCAS
(off-screen)
Stop it!

CUT:

LUCAS (CONT.)
Stop it! Leave them alone!

METAL APE grabs LUCAS with his free hand and lifts him to eye level. BONEY snaps at its heels.

METAL APE
I'd like to repay you for the little shove
you gave me off of Thunder Tower.

CUT:

DUSTER latches on with Rope Snake and climbs up the side of the ape, digging into his knapsack. He removes a wall mount.

CUT:

From the walkway, KUMATORA funnels great plumes of smoke and fire from her fingertips, all of which graze the unseen shield around METAL APE and cause it to spark.

KUMATORA
Lucas! Fight back!

LUCAS glows brightly but his attack fizzles.

METAL APE
(laughing)
Still useless with your abilities. You have
no idea how to handle all of that power!
A pity-

METAL APE squeezes LUCAS, who screams. DUSTER drops down onto its face and swings the wall mount like a crowbar, driving it into the eye of the ape. METAL APE drops LUCAS, wailing. Blood sprays from the wound.

DUSTER
(jumping down)
Better move quick!

KUMATORA
Now, Lucas!

A bluish-white glow surrounds him again and expands outward from LUCAS until it envelops the ape; and then an explosion. The ceiling caves. Focus shifts onto DUSTER, KUMATORA and BONEY as they flee the wreckage.

The dust settles over a view of the four standing within the river just below the open ceiling. METAL APE lies crushed beneath the rubble. Blood seeps out and mingles with raw sewage.

All approach with caution. LUCAS remains transfixed.

DUSTER
Damn! So much for that creep.

KUMATORA
He isn't dead. The only way a Magypsy can
die is if their Needle is pulled. At least
now I'm a bit more certain we're in the
right place.
(pause)
Damn you, Locria. It all makes sense now.
They knew where every Needle was, every time!

DUSTER
We should get out of here. Go back the
way we came in.

BONEY
(barking)
No! The scent is still here!

BONEY climbs out of the river and races further down the walkway. KUMATORA follows.

KUMATORA
Whatever you found, it better be good, dog.

DUSTER pats a breathless LUCAS as he passes.

DUSTER
All right there?

He exits. LUCAS looks over himself and then at his hands.

CUT:

Lighting is sparse further down the tunnel, which ends in a grate. Garbage has collected here. Against one wall is a ladder connecting floor to ceiling. BONEY stops at it and puts up his front feet.

BONEY
Here, right here! The smell is even stronger.

KUMATORA
What smell? Other than all this muck?

BONEY
(struggling to climb)
It smells like home!

KUMATORA
Hey, Lucas!

DUSTER takes BONEY by the harness and helps him up. LUCAS is standing idly until he is nudged.

KUMATORA
Wake up! You get all weird every time you
do that, just relax.

LUCAS
(stammering)
Well I wanted to say thanks to Duster.
And you. But Mr. Fassad, I mean Locria,
what's going to happen?

KUMATORA
He's going to get more of what he deserves
once you pull that Needle. Now go on.

CUT TO:

INT : NEW PORK CITY : CENTRAL DISTRICT : APARTMENTS : EVENING :


A manhole cover stirs in the middle of a dingy hallway. It slides off and DUSTER emerges with BONEY, followed by the others.

Garbage, torn posters and stains litter the walls and floor. At either end is a staircase, doors in-between, with one larger door at the far side. BONEY follows a scent trail to it then begins to scratch.

KUMATORA
The hell is this place? It reeks worse than
what we just crawled out of.

DUSTER
You got a little something on your dress
there, Princess.

KUMATORA
Shut up.

LUCAS
(crouching near BONEY)
What is it, boy?

BONEY
Home! It smells like home! Open, open!

KUMATORA
The last time we followed you in somewhere,
we got ambushed. I say we cut our losses-

LUCAS
No, wait. I can feel something.

A pause, after which LUCAS attempts to open the door. DUSTER steps up, takes a wall mount from his knapsack, and inserts one curved end between the door and frame, prying it open. BONEY races inside.

DUSTER
(gesturing to KUMATORA)
Ladies first.

KUMATORA
Famous last words.

CUT:

Darkness blankets the entire room except where light pours in from the hallway. Torn draperies hang off the walls. Garbage is piled around books, many of which are damaged. Against the far wall lies the enormous body of LEDER, who stirs when the light reaches him.

He is chained to the floor, only able to sit upright. Both his clothes and body are tattered. BONEY stands near, tail wagging, and LEDER blindly gropes the floor until he finds him.

LUCAS
(frightened)
Boney!

LEDER
(petting BONEY, very quietly)
That's all right.

BONEY
You smell like the forest.

The others approach with caution. LEDER reaches out to them.

LEDER
Lucas?

DUSTER
I don't believe it.

LEDER
Is that you, Duster? I recognize your voice.

DUSTER
Leder, the bell-ringer from the Crossroads.

LUCAS
The really tall man?

KUMATORA
I remember now. I remember you were taken
away that night the Pigs invaded Tazmily.
Everyone thought you were dead.

LEDER
No. The knowledge I hold has made me invaluable,
but of course such status comes at a heavy price.

He shows his scarred and blood-stained hands.

LUCAS
I don't remember you ever talking before.

LEDER
It wasn't that I was unable to talk, I simply
chose not to. That was my lot in life and
it seems I'm buried in it now.

LUCAS starts to move the chains that are weighing LEDER down.

LEDER
No, leave them. These chains bind me to a promise
I made long before any of you were born. There is
so much you don't know, and what I have to say
will tear at your hearts, but it is imperative
you hear it. If no one else, then Lucas.
(shifting)
Please tell me you have the Egg of Light?

DUSTER removes the Egg from his knapsack and the wing-like appendages on either side spread open.

DUSTER
I've had it all the while. What's it for?

LEDER
(blindly searching)
Forgive me, but my eyes-

DUSTER hands the Egg to LEDER and it glows.

LEDER
Ah, yes.

FADE TO BLACK

LEDER
(off-screen narration)
Your lives are not as you think of them now.

FADE IN:

A view of the Earth from space.

LEDER (CONT.)
Long ago, there existed a world so vast and
different from what we know. More people lived
and died here than there are grains of sand on
a beach, and with each generation, the evils of
humanity seemed to multiply until we had destroyed
all that was once dear to us.

An explosion. The scene switches to view of a futuristic city from afar. Flying vehicles crowd the airspace above it, among plumes of black smoke and fire.

LEDER (CONT.)
Hatred and war rocked our planet, spreading like
a plague. In the face of such inevitability,
people sought gentler ways to die, rather than
cling to a life many believed was over.

Another view of the city. Skyscrapers are collapsing near the shore as a large black ship escapes into the night.

FADE TO WHITE

LEDER (CONT.)
But out of the chaos came our last great hope.

Nuclear fallout blankets the screen and drifts downward in pieces. The ship emerges from the fog. Covered in ash, it has turned white.

CUT:

Ahead of the ship, all of the fallout has cleared and the NOWHERE ISLANDS can be seen under a veil of sunlight.

LEDER (CONT.)
It was the good fortune of this vessel and its
passengers that they found the islands we live
on now.

The ship rests in the shallows. Behind it, in the sky, are the clouds of fallout and fires burning in the darkness.

All occupants exit the boat, dressed in protective body suits and masks. Focus turns to an unusually tall teenager, who removes his mask to reveal shoulder-length brown hair and a bucket hat.

LEDER (CONT.)
I was one of those passengers, an apprentice
under a man called Osohe, who built our ship.

OSOHE, a stout figure with full red beard enters with mask tucked beneath his arm. He calls to other men on the ship as they move livestock from deck to shore.

LEDER (CONT.)
We believed that by sailing further away from
devastation, we might find salvation, and so
we did. These islands are protected by a deep,
natural magic, which the Magypsies keep in check.

A wider view of the beach, where men and women are still unloading animals. Many stand in the shallows, remove electronic devices from their pockets and bags, and toss them into the ocean.

The sky brightens and the shadow of an enormous bird descends. All scream, fleeing toward the first line of trees. FIRE LION emerges and LIGHT PHOENIX lands nearby.

LEDER (CONT.)
All of us feared the end of the world more than
anything, but to live here and start anew, we had
to erase the mistakes of our past.

CUT TO:

EXT : SUNSHINE VALLEY : AEOLIA'S HOME : DAY :


The Magypsies and all White Ship passengers, their belongings and livestock in tow, stand together in the grass before AEOLIA's shell house. AEOLIA and OSOHE are conversing.

LEDER (CONT.)
It was a pact set between ourselves and the
Magypsies that we would live in peace with
nature and leave our old ways behind.
They were rather gracious hosts-

OSOHE extends a hand to AEOLIA, who takes it, winking at him.

CUT TO:

EXT : OSOHE CASTLE : FRONT GARDENS : DAY :


OSOHE, LEDER, and AEOLIA, accompanied by several men, move about the castle garden, thick with overgrowth. The castle structure is crumbling, vine-covered.

LEDER (CONT.)
-but their hospitality came with severe
warning. They explained to us the power of
the Dragon and Needles, and how they had
driven out the corrupt, greed-stricken people
that once lived on these islands.

CUT:

View of the castle courtyard at night, engulfed in flame. People are running about, shouting, weapons in hand. FIRE LION stands aglow at the center and roars.

FADE TO:

EXT : OSOHE CASTLE : FRONT GARDENS : DAY :


Hands out, AEOLIA forms an ovoid ball of light, which becomes the Egg. It glows when OSOHE holds it.

LEDER (CONT.)
To preserve our memories, the Magypsies created
a device in which to store them, and with their
psychic abilities erased our minds.

OSOHE passes the egg on. AEOLIA puts her hands on either side of his head, kisses him, and a bright flash follows.

FADE TO:

EXT : TAZMILY GROUNDS : CROSSROAD : DAY :


LEDER, now a young adult, is building the bell tower structure. To the south are all the features of TAZMILY. Two boys, one redhead and the other a sandy brunette, chase each other with sticks.

REDHEAD BOY (Young Alec)
Wess! Come on, you fight like an old man!

BRUNETTE BOY (Young Wess)
Yeah well your jokes are even older!

LEDER
(off-screen narration)
In just a few years, Tazmily had been built
and we were living our lives as though nothing
had happened. Except, of course, for myself and
Osohe.

CUT TO:

INT : OSOHE CASTLE : INNER CHAMBER :


OSOHE places the Egg of Light on a pedestal between stone lion heads. Beside him are LEDER and a teenaged WESS.

LEDER (CONT.)
Osohe and I were given the ability to unlock all
memories within the Egg. We hid it deep inside
the castle, where Osohe remained as its protector.
Wess, who showed great skill with tools, climbing
and agility, was taught to retrieve the Egg should
an emergency arise.

CUT TO:

INT : NEW PORK CITY : CENTRAL DISTRICT : APARTMENTS : EVENING :


LUCAS, KUMATORA and DUSTER stand together. BONEY nudges LUCAS, who is shaking. He takes the Egg when LEDER offers it and it stops glowing.

LEDER
I was there when your parents were born, Lucas.
I was at your birth, Duster, and yours, Miss
Kumatora. Your mother and father died during
your infancy.

CUT TO:

EXT : OSOHE CASTLE : FRONT GARDENS : DAY :


OSOHE, now an old man with thick gray beard, stands in the yard with baby KUMATORA. He smiles and plays with her.

LEDER (CONT.)
(off-screen narration)
Though Osohe offered to raise you as his own,
he was very old. The Magypsies stepped up to
harness the great potential they sensed in you.

LIGHT PHOENIX drifts down beside them and hangs over OSOHE to admire the baby.

CUT TO:

INT : SUNSHINE VALLEY : AEOLIA'S HOME :


The baby KUMATORA sits on a padded fuchsia stool, fussing. IONIA and AEOLIA are styling her hair.

LEDER (CONT.)
The Magypsies cared for you when Osohe passed,
though you were always free to walk among the
villagers. Wess and Duster became your human
guardians-

CUT TO:

INT : TAZMILY VILLAGE : WESS'S HOUSE :


Toddler KUMATORA sits on a teenaged DUSTER's lap. She fusses and squirms as WESS attempts to feed her.

LEDER (CONT.)
-and they called you Princess, just as we
once called Osohe our king.

KUMATORA creates a small flame in her frustration, which singes WESS's hair. DUSTER laughs (voice fading out).

CUT TO:

INT : NEW PORK CITY : CENTRAL DISTRICT : APARTMENTS : EVENING :


LEDER shifts, dragging his chains along the floor. The Egg of Light is cracked now and begins to disintegrate.

LEDER
Then came young Lucas and Claus, and the tragedies
we have faced thus far, all of which have been
set in motion by a man with the cruelest intent.
His name is Porky Minch, the self-appointed king
of our world. He is neither from this time nor
from the time in which I originated. Indeed, he is
much older.

CUT:

Close view of the Earth. An unidentifiable object courses through the upper atmosphere as a streak of light.

LEDER (CONT.)
(off-screen narration)
Seeking to extend his empire, he has come to us in
a machine which distorts time and space, bringing
with him people from all other eras and brainwashing
them to do his will. Eventually, his travels
brought him here.

CUT TO:

EXT : MT. ORIANDER : LOWER CLIFFS : EARLY MORNING :


Airships in various sizes, all bearing the Pork Army insignia, land on the cliffs and PIGMASKS emerge. From this position, TAZMILY VILLAGE can be seen.

LEDER (CONT.)
He views these islands as his own personal toy
box, a place in which he can do anything he wants.
Locria, the seventh Magypsy, feared his power
most of all.

LOCRIA steps out, partially dressed as FASSAD. His pink hair is tied back sharply and has begun to turn black. He peels a banana and eats it, smiling.

LEDER (CONT.)
Fearing death, he betrayed the Magypsies in
order to extend his own existence, and was
lavished with gifts in return. The Needles,
the Dragon, and everything I have just told you,
Porky knows as well.

LOCRIA gestures to the mountain and village, conversing with the PIGMASKS.

LEDER (CONT.)
Because Porky isn't able to pull the Needles
himself, he has been using one of the selected few
who can, with Locria to show him the way.

CUT TO:

INT : NEW PORK CITY : CENTRAL DISTRICT : APARTMENTS : EVENING :


The Egg crumbles and turns to powder, which surprises LUCAS and he drops it.

LEDER
The spell has worn off. There is nothing left
to hide. Lucas, you have been both blessed
and cursed with this tremendous role. But God
will never make you carry more than you can bear.
(leaning against wall, weak)
We have only one chance to undo these evils,
or else succumb to them.

LUCAS
(close to tears)
But we don't know where to go.

LEDER
Only Locria knows the location of his Needle.
Our best course of action would be to enter
the Empire Tower, at the heart of the city.
That is where Porky issues his commands.
(pause, exhausted)
I am sorry. It has been so long since I've
spoken to anyone, and I am tired.

A brief silence, and then KUMATORA and DUSTER begin to usher LUCAS from the room. BONEY whimpers.

LEDER
(off-screen)
Wait, Lucas-

They turn as LEDER rises suddenly from the floor, dragging his chains. LUCAS steps up to meet him, crying. LEDER bows and takes him by the hand.

LEDER
You stand even taller than I. Remember that you
are not fighting alone, and show them who is
the real king.

LEDER slips back to the far wall again where he collapses and dies. Focus remains on him while the others exit.

CUT TO BLACK

All right, so I have taken a lot of liberties with this one but I'm pleased with the result and I hope you guys are, too. Sorry if the action seems fast (this is just a script after all, not a novel). There will be more soon!

Sooo funn to read! I knew this act was coming! So dramatic how Leder died at the end! Bawwwwwww! I love how you showed the visuals of the White ship even occuring! I am enthralled by the rich descriptions you give to this world such as old man Oshoe and young Leder and how Leder witnessed all their births!
I was so happy you included some of Ness in the theatre and slightly tweaked to fit Porkys twisted mind with Ness crying.
Also I was completely blown away by Porky commanding Masked Man to kill the horde of Pigmasks! Also the Fassad fight and unveiling was fantastic! I wish these events took place in game! On to the next sexy scene! ALL HAIL THE PIG KING!

I love the snarky edge you gave Duster in the screenplay and it really shows here, especially with his explanation of what will happen with the last Needle is pulled. XD I love how fast he can get under Kumatora's skin.

Mass destruction with the Commander! Fun times were had by all except the Pigmasks! I still love the sheer brutality of the Commander in the screenplay. The Lardna bot was sort of sad, too, with her quote about "daddy." I like that even now elements of Porky's childhood are still hanging over him, especially his father (I always assumed that Aloysius was an abusive father and a big part of why Porky turned into what he did).

Fassad's reveal as Locria may be one of my favourite scenes in the entire screenplay for Kumatora's reaction: disbelief, shock, rage. I was on the verge of tears and that says a lot. She just didn't want to believe that Locria betrayed them, but it all made so much sense considering that the Pigmasks knew where the Needles were located (and how they knew about the Dragon and Needles at all). One line in particular nailed me, especially after the last act and Ionia's final goodbye: "I don't know what Ionia saw in you." Just... ouch. As horrible as it is Locria is so believable because he joined the Pigmasks initially out of fear for his life. After that it all went downhill and fast. You managed to give Locria a sympathetic side and that's really, really impressive.

Leder's talk about the truth of Tazmily was done very well and filled in a lot of the gaps in the original story. I especially like how the people aboard the White Ship made a promise with the Magypsies when they had their memories erased before starting over. My favourite little detail has to be how the ship was actually black, but the ash from the nuclear fallout gave it the signature white appearance. A very nice touch that reflects upon the ruined world that the White Ship's passengers came from.

Even though you are repeating back to me a lot of what I know is in this act, I like how your comments on the issues are so coherent, and they assure me that I totally did something right. You got out of this exactly what I wanted people to see in it! And that's why I love and appreciate insightful feedback like this. Maybe this is just us being on the same wavelength again, but it gives me hope that I'm doing a good job and my readers, whether or not they contact me, are seeing what I intended to show. I like the way you expanded upon Leder's story, especially the part where little Kumatora produces a little flame. That part was cute! Also, the bits about Locria/Fassad (who, admittedly, is one of my favorite characters - I don't really know why).
